A Case of Mistaken Locations

I left my house this morning at 4:05 AM to ride the holiday rails down to PHL. It's been a long time since I've flown out of a big airport during the Holidayz; Rochester and Madison never had much a line at security. I slipped onto my flight to MKE via DTW 10 minutes before scheduled take-off. Upon landing Svetlana showed me this:

It was a little unsettling. I tried to check in, which didn't help my case of the Oh-Shit-I-Got-Onto-The-Wrong-Flightsies. I was legitimately concerned that I had gotten onto the wrong plane.

Finally Qrank came through and straightened things out though.

Later, after landing in Milwaukee, Svetlana got herself all mixed up again. This time I was at Logan International. She knew one thing, I was definitely at an airport. Which one though?

The Broken Ankle Sway

Watch for it. Then watch it again. The streets of Philadelphia ain't no place for a wobbly landing.

My Cold Left Hand

I've always said I draw like I have 3 right hands. That's not how I ride my bike though. Which means I'm going to have to figure out what happened to all my L-handed mitt-bags pretty soon. These are all that I could find in my winter supply bag today.

I Quit You

I made the horrifying discovery this afternoon that I still had Entourage listed as a favorite television show on The Facebook when I got an update asking me what my favorite Drama quote was. I wish more shows were as timeless as elimiDATE.

How to Begin...

Pop quiz, hot shot. You've got one chance to slightly redeem an otherwise undistinguished night of Trivia by correctly identifying the novel which begins thus:
The great fish moved silently through the night water.
What, you can't decide? Better thumb wrestle for it then, time's running out. And also, too bad, because  both The Old Man and The Sea and Moby Dick are wrong anyway.

Moby Dick:

Answer: Jaws

To be fair though, if we had had the complete first sentence that might have been a lot easier. We would have definitely said The Old Man and The Sea.

The Forgotten Sway—or: Girls Just Wanna Have Sway

I love that the swaynomenon is spreading. I hate that there's a sway without me in it.

Et tu Whitné‽

Have you ever felt like everyone's against you? Like the world's just out to get you? I don't think I have. Usually I feel like the world is letting me get away with something; which it usually is. Until Karma comes knocking on my door making to collect, that is. That's scary like a Monday morning. It's even worse when she shows up with a dead tree in her hand under a gray winter sky. Creepy.

On another note, last night I felt like I had stabbed myself in the heart when I realized I had just bought a huge canister of decaf coffee. What was I thinking? Why would I do this to me?

The last time you saw this sweater I was bald; so much has happened on my head since then.

It hurts a little inside.

I realized this afternoon in my 3 hour Semantics seminar that today is Joe Curtosi's birthday. Joe Curtosi was my best friend during the 8 years of middle and high school. Then I went to college. The last time I actually hung out with him was January of 2002, after getting home from Egypt. Turns out, not living in South Philadelphia is not conducive to maintaining friendships with your friends from South Philly. The upside is that not living in South Philly is conducive to not getting married and not becoming a parent.

Anyway, I was sort of excited when Curtosi joined Facebook this past January. Is there some way to go back and see who friended who? I think he asked me, but I can't remember now. I know I wrote him a message though when it happened, which is much more personal than a wall post. He never wrote back. I didn't even really notice that, I do it all the time. But today, while sitting in my Semantics seminar, I realized he had also de-friended me; there had been no birthday reminder.

I checked when I got home. Yes, he's still on Facebook. No, we are not friends anymore.

Opseblepsia

In this video: the correct definition of obseblepsia, crying, Whitney picking his own definition without knowing it, a debate about the implications of 'bleeding out', Katie asking for Chicken Fried.

If you weren't there, this probably isn't funny.

Limburger‽ I don't even know her!

My Cheese of the Month delivery arrived yesterday and proudly proclaimed itself to be "for Valentine's Day!". Along with a wedge of Farmhouse Cheshire and a chunk of red pepper cacio de roma was a 1/2 lb. brick of limburger. Really? Limburger for Valentine's Day?

My defining limburger memories come from the ill-fated experience David and I had with a bottle of limburger we bought from Ghetto Weg's, c. 2002. It was a terrible decision and I think we're still both slightly embarrassed by our youthful naïvité. I wish I could move on, but that 'cheese' still haunts my dreams on occasion. And it still makes me very hesitant when dealing with even well respected limburgers like this one from Wisconsin. Luckily I have 4 months to get up my nerve.
I already know what mustard I'll be using, I just need to stock up on pumpernickel and liverwurst.

Do you trust you?

Just a simple white knit, an apple, and a date with destiny. Oh, there's a picture of a wolf back there too.

Hello Mustache

Tonight was a night of painful revelation, self-reflection, and razor blades.

I was trying for the Jagged Edge.
I'd been planing it all year long.
And I thought my beard was ready.
My beard wasn't ready.

It's so hard for me to say those words.

As a consolation prize I get to go back to my old friend here.

But it's not what I really wanted.

Disaster in the mailroom.

This morning as I watched the rolling industrial wasteland that is Secaucus, NJ pass by the train window, I did some spot Karma Kalculations. I had been spending it pretty liberally as of late and I was surprised to have made it through a weekend in Brooklyn with my camera, phone, wallet, appendages, and wardrobe all still intact. Then I missed my connecting train in Trenton. Trenton is depressing; having to spend an extra 64 minutes in the knee-pit of New Jersey will mollify anyone's Karma accountant. But this sight, waiting for me when I got back to Philadelphia, is even more depressing. There once was a Little Gay Lego in there that held 4 GB of data. Now some little gay postman is out there sharing files like there's no tomorrow.
